CELEBRATION OB BLAKE’S LIFE: 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 22, 2016 at the First Christian Church, Oblong, IL. Burial will follow in the Kepplinger Cemetery, Landes, IL.

Blake Smith, 56 of Landes, IL went to be with his Heavenly Father Monday, July 18, 2016 due to a farming accident.

Blake was born in Olney, Il February 5, 1960. His parents are Connie and the late Jerry Dick. He graduated from Bloomington High School North, Bloomington, Indiana in 1978. He attended College in Florida, then returned to Landes, IL to become a farmer alongside his Grandfather Chester Thacker. He continued the family farm and his love for farming with his son Jacob Smith.

Blake was a trustee for South West Township. He was a member of Landes United Methodist Church and First Christian Church of Oblong. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family at home, on the boat or vacationing together. Blake had a special love for his dogs. He was an avid fan of any sport but, enjoyed playing golf and basketball.

Blake married the love of his life, Brenda Battershell, August 16, 1986, she survives. He is also survived by his son’s Jacob Smith and wife Haley of Landes, IL and Caleb Smith of Champaign, IL whom he was so proud of. He is survived by his mother Connie Dick, New Port Richey, Florida; His two sisters Jeanean Gruzlewski and her husband Jim of New Port Richey, Fl; Danette Smith of Lawrenceville, IL; as well as his nieces, Paige Gruzlewski, Lindsay Gruzlewski, Bridgitte Paddick and Macey Paddick; Nephews Kyle Gruzlewski and Matthew Paddick.

Blake was preceded in death by his father Jerry Dick, Uncle George Thacker, Grandparents Chester and Fern Thacker and In-Laws Frank and Lena Battershell.
